I know it’s been a while since we’ve had a film review on the site, but don’t worry, as soon as I have Alice the Peacemaker, we will return to the reviews hot and heavy. I’m hoping to burn through the remaining Alice Comedies of 1924 quickly, then move on to the next year after that.
So, it’s been a month since I started this project, and I have some observations to share with you, just about how things are going in general:
1. So far, I’ve very much enjoyed the whole process of learning about Walt and digging in deeper as to what was going on with him during the Kansas City days and the early Hollywood period. Reading the books like Walt In Wonderland, Walt Disney’s Missouri and The Hand Behind the Mouse in short order right next to each other has helped me to synthesize the information. I really would like to get the readers of this site to follow along with me, watching the films, reading the books, so this is a community of people who are taking this journey.
2. One thing I have noticed, however, as I get a little deeper into the Disney fan community, is that everyone seems to have their area of expertise/specialty. Makes sense, I guess, but there are some people only interested in the early black and white shorts, others only interested in the features, and still others focused on the live action films. My hope is that this blog will bring all of those communities together. I know, a lofty goal, but why not aim high?
3. Personally, the blog has been a godsend for me. It gives me time each day to write about something I love, and I feel like I’m learning a great deal in the process. Looking at the site traffic, there’s not a lot of you out there reading just yet, but my thought is that if I keep writing, you guys will keep coming. But if you have feedback for me, please leave it in the comments, and I will definitely take it into consideration.
4. Finally today, I’ve made some changes to make the blog a little easier to read. The posts are organized on the side by subject, so you can quickly read all the reviews of the Laugh O Grams in order, or look at other subjects. I’ve also added a video bar so you can watch some of these films. Most of them I have included links to in the articles, but some are not up on YouTube. So, take a look and let me know what you think.
Enjoy the day, and we’ll be back tomorrow, hopefully with Alice the Peacemaker, featuring art by Ub Iwerks, and then we’ll roll through the Alice Comedies pretty quick after that.
